Stranger in the Woods
By: Carl R. Sams II & Jean Stoick
It was 1982 when I shook an apple out of a tree and befriended my first white-tailed doe. That October the first trusting chickadee landed on my hand to take a sunflower seed. The small bird’s feet touched my hand and left an unforgettable impression. Since that time my wife, Jeannie, and I have photographed the same family of white-tailed deer and generations of birds. We carry seeds in our pockets for the chickadees, tufted titmice, nuthatches and downy woodpeckers who seek us out. In “Stranger in the Woods” we share some of these special moments.
